Pregnant girls at the age of 13 or grandmothers at the age of 26 are of no surprise in Colombian slums. In the poorest social class, violence against women is especially striking: rape, sexual abuse or sex trafficking of minors happen on everyday basis. Teenage pregnancies are extremely prevalent. Colombia is a country that experienced a brutal 50-years long civil war as well as ruthless drug cartels. The long escalation of violence has caused millions of Colombian people to suffer from extreme poverty. The situation in Colombia has forced over 7 million people to leave their homes. Most of them now live in slums. Such a situation is the most difficult for women, who are additionally victims of violence and stigmatization resulting from a characteristic to Latin America machismo culture.

“ Florets “
Dir. by David Javier
Creative/Choreographer - Kristin McQuaid
This is a true story. 1976 - a mannequin hanging in a funhouse ride is discovered to be a real human body. At the LA Coroners Department an autopsy on the mysterious mummy slowly reveals clues that send us back to 1880 when a child is born out of wedlock: Elmer McCurdy grows up to be a wanna-be cowboy and failed train robber. Dead by age thirty, fame finally arrives when Elmer’s cadaver, billed as the Oklahoma Outlaw, plays the carnival circuit for sixty years.
As I get older I keep realizing that so many things change in life. People go in and out. Trends go in and out. Relationships go in and out. We never know what our next path in life is and that’s what is so astonishing. I relate the Florets to life. They grow, they are a wish, they are alive, they fade away, and then we find new growth.
